Admission Information

As School Registrar, Mrs Carolyn Ward is the first point of contact for prospective Danes Hill parents.

Choosing a new and perhaps first school for your child can be a complex but rewarding task. The choice of the most appropriate school can seem an impossibly difficult decision to make but in our experience, parents should trust their own judgement - you really do know your own children best! We make our admissions process as seamless and stress-free as possible and Carolyn Ward, School Registrar, is always on hand to answer any questions you might have.

Main points of Admission

Pupils can join Danes Hill in Mini Transition when they have had their third birthday, Transition, aged 3+, Reception, aged 4+ and Year 3, aged 7+. Places are sometimes available in the intervening year groups. We understand that it is not always possible to start at the beginning of the academic year and pupils occasionally join in the Spring or Summer Terms. We aim to be as flexible as possible.

Pupils applying for Year 1 and Year 2 places are invited for an informal observation, whilst children joining Year 3 and above are invited for a taster/assessment day where they will sit tests in English and Mathematics, join a class for the remainder of the morning and stay for lunch.

We pride ourselves in being a non-selective school and our admissions process is designed to identify pupils who are able to benefit from our balanced and well-rounded education. An offer of a place will be made if we feel Danes Hill is the right school for your child and you will be notified within 3-4 working days, although in some instances it will be sooner than this.

The Trust continues to fund a number of bursaries to pupils in accordance with its Bursaries and Financial Assistance Policy. More information can be found in the policies section of the school website.

The Danes Hill Admission Process

Initial Enquiry

If you are considering Danes Hill as the school for your child or would just like some more information, please contact Carolyn by phone 01372 849203 or by email At this stage, we will ask for your contact details, arrange to send you a hardcopy of our prospectus (if desired) and find out what you are seeking for your child or children.

Tour of the School

If you like the look of what we have to offer, the most important thing is for you to visit the school, get a feel for it and decide whether it is an environment which feels right for your child. Tours generally include a visit to both the Bevendean (Pre-Prep) and Main School sites. We always endeavour to give prospective parents the chance to meet our Headmaster during their visit. Tours generally take place on three mornings each week during term time, but if this proves inconvenient we will do everything we can to arrange a day and time to suit.

Registering Your Child

At the end of the tour, parents are provided with a registration form. Some parents are keen to register there and then but we always advise them to go home and think about it first. This is a big decision and it is very important that you are absolutely sure Danes Hill is the school for your child. Once you have finalised your decision, the completed registration form needs to be returned to Carolyn, together with the registration fee (£100) and, if appropriate, a deposit (£750). You may, of course, take as long as you need to make this decision, provided that there is no waiting-list and Carolyn is always available by telephone or email to answer any further questions you may have. If you have not received a registration form or have mislaid it, it is available as a PDF version to the right of this page, so that you can complete and return to Carolyn Ward.

After Registration

Once you have registered with us, we will keep in touch with you every step of the way. Our staff ensure that new pupils are made to feel really welcome from day one of their time at the school. Depending on their age, this might include another pupil being allocated as their ’buddy’ to help them find their feet. Our parent body, the FODH, are equally welcoming to new parents and there are plenty of opportunities for new Danes Hill families to immerse themselves quickly in the school community.

We look forward to welcoming you on a visit to the school.
